Pedestrian Links

We have improved public spaces at Broadgate, to provide a swift and straightforward pedestrian route to and from Liverpool Street Station, as well as between the existing estate and 201 Bishopsgate and The Broadgate Tower.

The north-south links project continues British Land’s programme of enhancement works at Broadgate. It has enhanced public space within Exchange Square, beneath Exchange House and throughout the Sun Street Passage, which is the key link between Liverpool Street Station and Exchange House. Works started in February 2008 and are due for completion in July 2009. They have included:

Sun Street Passage
Installing traffic barriers in the Sun Street Passage to reduce vehicle movement, as well as introducing a new wider staircase, enhancing lighting and improving landscaping.

Exchange House
Upgrading the Exchange House steps by providing a new staircase, ramps and a glass lift for disabled access.

Exchange Square Re-surfacing and re-grading Exchange Square and removing walls to improve access.

As part of the planning process associated with 201 Bishopsgate and The Broadgate Tower, pedestrian access throughout Primrose Street has been improved. The Corporation of London carried out these works on our behalf, narrowing Primrose Street at the base of the Exchange House steps, improving facilities for cyclists, widening footpaths, creating a pedestrian island and lowering the kerbs. We will monitor the outcome to ensure that the improvement works are providing the high standard of operating environment that our occupiers expect.

“We work with local authorities, community groups, transport providers and our occupiers to provide alternatives to the car when accessing our properties. We aim to make it easier for people to make smarter choices.”
