The Project Team
201 Bishopsgate and The Broadgate Tower were developed by British Land and designed by the Chicago office of award winning architects Skidmore Owings & Merrill. They were constructed by Bovis Lend Lease, with M3 Consulting as the development manager.
British Land
British Land owns the majority of Broadgate, including 201 Bishopsgate and The Broadgate Tower, and manages the estate as a long-term investment. British Land is the UK’s second largest Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) with total assets owned or under management of £17.9 billion, as at 31st March 2008. Office property accounts for 41% of the company’s portfolio, of which 99% is in central London. British Land also has a 4.5 million sq ft (420,000 m²) development pipeline.
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
The Chicago based office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill was appointed as architects to the project in 1991. The Chicago office has considerable expertise in the design and engineering associated with high-rise office buildings. The Skidmore, Owings & Merrill team has worked on projects in Broadgate since 1984, including 10 Exchange Square, which completed in 2004.
Bovis Lend Lease
Bovis Lend Lease constructed the foundation raft, which supports 201 Bishopsgate and The Broadgate Tower, in 2000. The firm began construction of the buildings in May 2006. Bovis Lend Lease is a global company specialising in project management and construction. Bovis Lend Lease has worked with British Land on many other landmark developments in the City, including Plantation Place in Fenchurch Street.
M3 Consulting
M3 Consulting is responsible for the development management process of 201 Bishopsgate and The Broadgate Tower. Established in 1997, the company’s portfolio comprises more than 120 projects ranging in size, complexity and budgets from £50,000 to £1 billion. M3 Consulting is also working with British Land on the company’s Osnaburgh Street development in Regent’s Place, London NW1.
