Our focus areas

The four cornerstones of Building Together

Our use of resources We aim to understand our resource use and the resources used in our buildings, to reduce these wherever possible, to re-use whenever practicable and otherwise to recycle.

Reducing energy and water use, and managing waste responsibly, reduces carbon emissions, generates financial savings and increases the attractiveness of our buildings to occupiers, as well as enabling us to manage our impact on the environment and the potential impact of climate change on us.

Our customers and usWe aim to treat our customers as partners, to help them to achieve their goals, and to help us to achieve ours.

Building closer relationships with occupiers enables us to meet their changing business needs more successfully, manage our broader environmental impacts more effectively and improve our long-term financial performance.

Our communities and us We aim to foster economic regeneration and to demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behaviour in our dealings with communities and the built environment.

Developing relationships with local communities and local authorities enhances our reputation, promotes sharing of objectives and resolution of issues, and enables us to develop and manage properties that meet local needs.

Us and our suppliers We aim to treat our suppliers and staff as members of a single team who work together to ensure the success of our business and delivery of service to our customers.

It is only by working closely with our people and suppliers that we will be able to embed Building Together within all levels of our business and throughout our supply chain.

Our impacts

In 2007/08 our buildings consumed over 54 million kWh of energy, used 68,337 m³ of water and produced an estimated 10,000 tonnes of waste.

We have more than 150 employees at our Head Office and over 650 employed directly at our properties.

Last year we spent more than £416 million with 3,500 suppliers, either directly for us or for our occupiers.
