Our communities and us

Because listening to local people and backing local initiatives builds relationships, helping us to develop and manage properties that meet local needs. By acting in partnership to support good causes we also enhance our reputation.

In 2007/08 British Land gave over £850,000 to good causes through sponsorship, as well as nearly £30,000 in time and £120,000 in gifts in kind.

In 2007/08 approximately 10,000 children from schools in Hackney, Tower Hamlets and the City of London visited the ice rink at Broadgate.

Thousands of people had opportunities to enjoy events at our properties in 2007. We estimate that more than 500,000 people work in or visit our properties each day.

We won a Business in the Community (BitC) Silver Jubilee Big Tick for our long-term community engagement in West Euston.

"We aim to foster economic regeneration and to demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behaviour in our dealings with communities and the built environment.

In 2007/08 we continued to undertake wide-ranging, early stakeholder consultation on our new developments and actively engaged with the community at 54% of managed properties.

We hope you enjoy finding out about our progress to date and our future plans. We welcome your feedback."
