Our use of resources

Because reducing energy and water use, and managing waste responsibly, reduces carbon emissions, generates financial savings and increases the attractiveness of our buildings to occupiers.

In 2007/08 54,437,222 kWh of energy were used in the areas of our portfolio we control,
21% less than in 2004/05.

75% of the electricity used in the areas of
our portfolio we control in 2007/08 was
from sustainable sources, including renewables.

In 2007/08 368,337m³ of water were used in
the areas of our portfolio we control, 26% less than in 2004/05.

Broadgate, Meadowhall Shopping Centre
and Regent's Place generated 12,861 tonnes
of waste in 2007/08, of which 45% was
recycled.

"We aim to understand our resource use and the resources used in our buildings, to reduce these wherever possible, to re-use whenever practicable and otherwise to recycle.

We have set some challenging
targets to support our commitment to become carbon neutral across landlord controlled areas of our portfolio from 2008/09.”

Peter Clarke, Executive Officer
