Regeneration
Through the planning process, we contributed over
£23 million to local initiatives.
This investment is a key part of our planning agreements with local authorities, helping to ensure that our developments meet the needs of local residents.
In December 2008, following over five years of work and consultation, we received a resolution to grant outline planning consent for our River Don District masterplan. This is expected to inject over £300 million of investment into Sheffield’s economy and will yield an estimated regional economic benefit of £180 million each year.
This year, construction began on the community library at Canada Water in London’s Docklands, following extensive consultation. We continued to work closely with the London Borough of Southwark on the masterplan through the British Land Canada Quays joint venture. This venture will deliver new residential, commercial and community facilities.
In September 2008, we received planning consent for 103 Colmore Row. Feedback from local people and other key stakeholders led to the project team making some significant changes to the design. The quality of the office space and design of the building are expected to help Birmingham to attract more international companies.
The Canada Water masterplan, Colmore Row project and River Don District masterplan are expected to generate over 7,000 jobs once completed, many targeted at local people.
