Managing sustainable developments

All of our new office developments achieved or were on target to achieve BREEAM Excellent ratings. Our new residential development is also set to achieve a minimum Code for Sustainable Homes Level Three.

Our project teams continued to apply our Sustainability Brief for Developments, considering environmental and social issues during design and construction. This is contributing to the majority of our developments exceeding our corporate targets. Project teams on all our developments also carried on setting site-specific sustainability objectives.

Our Development Team worked with contractors and environmental consultants to develop appropriately challenging corporate targets. Going forward, we will be funding workshops with our contractors and their supply chain to reduce resource use during construction.

Our Environmental Management System, which governs and monitors sustainability objectives across our developments, achieved ISO:14001 certification this year. This reflects the robust processes we have put in place to gather data. We reported data for our UK office developments, encompassing around 80% of our development portfolio by value. Next year, we will also be reporting data for our retail and Continental European developments.

Next year, we will continue to target BREEAM Excellent ratings for all new office developments and will raise the standards for new residential developments to a Code for Sustainable Homes Level Four. We will also target BREEAM Very Good ratings for major office refurbishments and apply BREEAM Retail to the areas we control on major new retail construction projects.
