Welcome to the British Land Crossrail Update

Broadgate – right at the heart of Crossrail

The Crossrail Bill received Royal Assent on 22nd July 2008. The new Crossrail Act 2008 gives authority for the railway to be built. Preparatory works will start in 2009, with main construction starting in 2010, and services opening in 2017.

British Land actively supported the lobbying of Government to ensure that Crossrail was approved. Our efforts also ensured that an additional ticket hall for the Crossrail station was agreed, safeguarding fast access and increased transport capacity to the heart of the City from outside London.

Crossrail is scheduled to be operational in 2017 and is expected to deliver significant economic and environmental benefits for London. The new Crossrail station entrance for Liverpool Street will provide access to more than 35,000 people who will be working in the Broadgate area from 2010 and the many more in the surrounding areas of the City.

Liverpool Street Station is already a very significant hub for transportation into the City. There are currently 140 million visitors each year passing through the station - more than those visiting Heathrow Airport each year. Crossrail at Broadgate will provide significant additional transport capacity.
