Crossrail will make travelling to Broadgate easier and quicker, as well as reducing crowding on the transport network. It will operate with mainline-size trains, carrying more than 1,500 passengers in each train at peak times.
British Land’s efforts helped to ensure that an additional ticket hall was agreed for Liverpool Street Station, benefiting the 35,000 people who will be working in the Broadgate area, as well as those working in the surrounding areas of the City. 140 million visitors already pass through Liverpool Street Station each year- more than those visiting Heathrow Airport. Crossrail at Broadgate will provide significant additional transport capacity.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, comments: “The years of hesitation, irresolution and vacillation are over, the shovels have tasted earth and the construction of a railway that is crucial to the economic prosperity of this great city has begun. This amazing project will create and support thousands of jobs, relieve congestion and provide a high speed link between east and west of London. When the first of Crossrail’s chariots glide smoothly along its lines in 2017 it will change the face of transport in London and the south east forever.”
