Staff Environmental Working Group
Staff from different areas of the business have formed a new group to make our Head Office ‘greener’.
The group is looking to bring about positive change by raising environmental awareness and improving communication with staff on environmental issues. An environmental survey sent to all Head Office staff has helped the group to identify priorities.
“Did you know that 95% of the energy used by the UK's mobile phone chargers is wasted energy? Only 5% is actually used to charge phones; the rest is used when the charger is plugged into the wall but not switched off at the socket.”
- Green tip from the group
Over the next year they are looking to reduce Head Office electricity use and waste per person by 5%, as well as ensuring that 65% of waste gets recycled.
The group is facilitated by Joanne Hammond and comprises Rochelle Bailey, Michael Beeman, Ian Davies, Roger Gajadhar, Andrew Gelling, Scott Jackson, Alison King, Jonathan Rae, Innes Smith, Mary Strudwick and Matthew Stubberfield.
“Suggest staff try to use the stairs rather than the lift. This is good exercise and saves electricity.”
- Staff feedback
Working together
The group is working in partnership with our environmental consultant, Arup, and members of the Broadgate Estates management team.
