In October, we visited a materials recovery facility to find out more about how our construction waste is diverted from landfill.

MSK Waste Management and Recycling has provided waste management services on a number of our projects, including the fit-out of 201 Bishopsgate and The Broadgate Tower.

MSK segregates, re-uses and recycles a wide range of waste streams at its £10 million facility in Barking. These include cardboard, Corex protection, floor tiles, fluorescent tubes, glass, hardboard, hardcore, metals, pallets, paper, plastics, timber and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment).

“It was a very informative trip which, going forward, will help us enormously to manage our approach to construction waste better. MSK’s setup is very impressive and we appreciated the amount of time that they gave to us.”

- Sustainable Developments Executive at British Land,
Sarah Cary

The members of the British Land developments team who visited the materials recovery facility were Head of Planning and Environment, Adrian Penfold, Sustainable Developments Executive, Sarah Cary, Planning Executive, Miles Price, and Developments Executive, Mike Rayner.

“Our partnering approach enables us to implement Site Waste Management Plans and identify new technologies and processes, so that we continually improve our services and environmental performance, thus supporting our clients’ commercial needs and sustainability agendas.”
