Lord Mayor's Award at Regent's Place

In October, British Land received the prestigious Lord Mayor’s Award for its long-term, sustainable commitment to the West Euston community.

In 1984, when British Land purchased Regent’s Place, a 13-acre estate in West Euston in the London Borough of Camden, the local area was characterised by high levels of deprivation and social exclusion. For over a decade, British Land has worked with the West Euston Partnership and local people to make this area a better place to live and work, with real success.

“I would like to thank British Land. This is an excellent partnership that will continue to grow and make a difference to the lives of people.”

British Land was presented with the award by Lord Mayor Ian Luder at a ceremony at the Mansion House in the City of London on 15th October.

The company is now delighted to have been shortlisted for the London Planning Award’s Best Built Project for its Osnaburgh Street development in Regent’s Place, which is due for completion this year. Local residents were consulted at every stage of this development, leading to a scheme with outstanding levels of local support.

“It is an absolute pleasure working with British Land. They have continued to support Diorama Arts and the local community through good times and bad, and are totally committed to engaging with local residents.”

The £250 million Osnaburgh Street development offers 370,000 sq ft of office accommodation, 8,000 sq ft of retail space and 148 residential units, of which 62% are affordable housing, as well as new pedestrian routes, extensive public realm improvements and additional community facilities. These include a state-of-the-art community theatre due to open in January 2010, as well as a café and two additional multi-purpose rooms.

Working together

British Land works in partnership with a number of local organisations in the London Borough of Camden, including the West Euston Partnership, Diorama Arts charity, Netley Primary School, South Camden Community School, the Third Age Project for the over fifties, and the West Euston Partnership One Stop Shop for employment and training.
