Economic Impact

The recently launched Sheffield Economic Masterplan seeks to create a step change for economic development in Sheffield. It is intended to deliver on three key themes based around the guiding principle of sustainable development:

  • Productive and Competitive Businesses
  • Economic Inclusion and Participation
  • Creating the Conditions for Sustainable Economic Growth

British Land’s proposals to regenerate the River Don District will have a positive impact on the local communities and the City of Sheffield. These proposals will make a substantial contribution towards realising the objectives of the Economic Masterplan.

  • Approximately 5,000 jobs targeted at a range of skills
  • 1,000 jobs during construction
  • Over £300 million of private sector investment into Sheffield’s economy
  • Training opportunities and employment initiatives for local people in co-operation with Sheffield City Council and The Source
  • Up to 1,300 new homes provided in a mix of tenures, types and affordability
  • New community, local retail and leisure facilities
  • Estimated regional economic benefit of £180m per annum
  • A diverse employment location to provide office types that will complement Sheffield City Centre
  • Helping maximise the economic benefits of the Lower Don Valley and the Sheffield-Rotherham ‘Economic Zone’
  • Assist in the delivery of the Housing Market Renewal Strategy
