Introduction
I am pleased to introduce our first Sustainability Brief for Management. This online tool brings together guidance we have previously published across a range of documents, making it easier for our property management teams to source the information they need, when they need it.
This Brief sets out the required standards for environmental management at our managed office and retail properties, as part of our efforts to improve consistency across our portfolio. It also identifies good practice examples to help our property management teams to raise performance further.
The initial focus is on three priority areas: energy, water and waste. By improving energy efficiency, reducing water use and diverting waste from landfill we lower our costs and those of our occupiers, whilst saving precious natural resources. We hope to extend the Brief in the future to cover other important issues from across our corporate responsibility strategy, Building Together.
We aim to lead the market in developing and managing buildings in a sustainable manner. Managing agents and building managers have an important part to play in improving our overall environmental performance. They should meet or exceed the key standards set out in this Brief. They must also innovate, challenge and drive forward the sustainability agenda.
The British Land Sustainability Brief for Management was developed in partnership with our environmental consultant, Arup, following extensive consultation with our property management teams. We hope that it is as successful across our managed portfolio as our Sustainability Brief for Developments has been across our development portfolio.
We welcome your feedback cr@britishland.com
